A series of quotes from architecture students in reaction to “Fragments of Time”
The main goal of my thesis was to create a film that would capture the feel and emotional journey of architecture school and be something that architecture students would be happy to show their family and friends.
After the final presentation I was greeted by students from 1st year, 2nd year and masters about how the film touched them and how they felt it captured the feel of what they have been through.
This is a selection of quotes form those students.
“Thoroughly thought-provoking and entirely relateable at every turn. Each architecture student who has endured the trials and tribulations of a semester’s worth of design studio will instantly empathise with Jack’s position. The film highlights the characters internal struggle and the external manifestation in a way that expresses the complexity of architectural education, but in a manner which is easy to follow and enjoyable to observe. “
- Shane Collins, MArch Graduate

“Fragments of Time was able to express the life of architecture students through visuals which could not be expressed and understood to a full extent through words. It also portrayed moments and stills of architectural spaces and how humans inhabit and use.”
- Maedeh Rashedi, MArch Student

“Embodies the ups and downs we face as students.”
- Russell Ward, MArch Thesis Student

“Fragments of Time made me realise how much I love architecture school. When you’re studying you don’t realise how much fun you’re having with the family we have created because you are focused on what you are trying to produce. The hard work, the hard hours and the long nights are always the things that create such special memories.”
- Megan King, MArch Student

“I think the film really captured the thoughts, feelings and emotions that are common across many architecture students today. Personally, I could certainly relate to many of the scenes throughout the film and I think it was a true interpretation of what I experienced during architecture school.”
- Brough Whibley, MArch Student

“Fragments of Time perfectly captured the experience and feeling of being an architecture student”
- Nicole Mesquita-Menndes, 2nd Year BArch Student

“It was an absolute cracker, I feel somewhat inspired to do something completely out of the box to challenge the status quo after watching it”
- Nelson Michaels, 1st Year BArch Student

“Watching “Fragments of Time” after two all-nighters at the end of the final crit day was the epitome of “Architecture school ”. It couldn’t have been more accurate.”
- Marcel Moller, 2nd Year BArch Student

“Fragments of time was an endearing mix of humour and truth, which reminded me how lucky I was to have such a strong support system around me.”
- Tiffany Nacion, 2nd Year BArch Student

“Each week was a true representation of the emotional strains we conquer, and the unforgettable friendships we build throughout our time together.”
- Kirstin Tuckey, MArch Student

“The film was very relatable towards architecture students, in some scenes I had felt like the character was me, a brilliant film with an epic score.”
- Melek Ada, 2nd Year BArch Student

“The movie was a realistic depiction of the creative process that takes place in different fragments of time through an architecture course while also revealing the relationships built between students in the building.”
- Jobin Manamel, MArch Student

“A relatable film for architecture students as it portrays the challenges we face but also highlights moments in the friendships that are formed that help us get through the ups and downs of the degree”
- Dana Kittle, MArch Student

“I guess I’d just have to say that it was really interesting to see someone’s perspective of architecture from an inside point of view and how that vision can be translated into a visually audible movie and how those expressions can be translated into feelings. I felt the need to show it to my mum and friends as soon as I could.”
- Nicholas Clark-Burton, 1st Year BArch Student
